SAFETY ADVISOR

We are seeking a passionate Safety Advisor to join the team at Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) who will support leaders to achieve a world class safety culture.

We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. 

Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

This role reports to the site Health and Safety Superintendent. As the Safety Advisor, you will support all safety and risk related tasks across site whilst ensuring alignment to the Yancoal values and behaviours. In particular, you will be required to: •    Partner with line leaders to facilitate the implementation and continual improvement of all aspects of safety processes including risk assessments/audits/inspections, hazard reporting, accident/incident investigations reporting. •    Support managers in ensuring relevant contractors and employees comply with the site’s safety and health management system and relevant legislation. •    Play an active part in the continuous improvement of safety onsite via targeted projects in response to incident findings and feedback from the workforce. 

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will also display the following skills and attributes: •    Qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or Workplace Health & Safety (Minimum Certificate IV) or similar. •    Incident Investigation Qualifications (Taproot/Essential Factors/I-cam). •    RIIRIS402D - Carry out the risk management processes and risk assessment facilitation experience. •    Strong knowledge of health and safety standards / legislation. •    Excellent verbal and written communication skills. •    Demonstrated experience of improving safety culture. •    Mining experience, preferably Open-Cut Coal Mining or Heavy Industry experience. •    Workplace drug and alcohol testing accreditation. (Desirable) •    Pegasus system experience. (Desirable) •    Mental health awareness training. (Desirable)
