Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Safety Advisor.

Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance.  Our comfortable, well-furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer. 

Who we’re looking for

Our Telfer Operations are seeking a self-motivated and experienced Safety Advisor to support our stated goal of “zero life altering injuries and fatalities”. This is a critical role in our People and Safety Department and assists with the ongoing provision of a safe and healthy working environment.

Some of the key deliverables of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide occupational health and safety advice and support across site.
  • Implementation and adherence to safety systems
  • Facilitate accident and incident investigations.
  • Conduct auditing and governance on Fatality Risks and Business Partner Management Systems
  • Safety coaching and development of Telfer Personnel
  • Quality control of incident investigations 
  • Procedure development
  • Participate in the Fatality Risk Management and Critical Control Verification Program

To succeed in this role, you will be a self-starter with a strong passion to uphold high safety standards, as demonstrated by your excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You will be comfortable with change and hold a personal belief that working safely is of paramount importance.

In addition, you will ideally possess the following:

  • Relevant safety experience in a similar role, ideally in the mining or heavy industries
  • Cert IV or Diploma in OHS as a minimum
  • Experience with writing procedures and standards – Mine Safety Management Systems
  • Monitor changes to safety legislation and responding to requirements to change so compliance is maintained.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding to the relevant Regulations, Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Effective organisational time management and prioritisation skills
  • Strong computer literacy and prior experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Safety Reporting Systems such as Enablon or SAI 360 is advantageous.

Please note: This is a full-time permanent role at our Telfer mine site, FIFO from Perth on an 8 days on/6 off roster (Friday to Friday).
