Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Reporting to the Health & Safety Governance team, this role is responsible for leading the governance, and continual improvement of Fortescue's Major Hazard (Fatality Risk) framework. Working across the business, you will strengthen critical control management, leverage data and AI-driven insights to enhance risk performance, and partner with operational and digital teams to deliver innovative, enterprise-wide safety solutions.
You will provide strategic advice to senior leaders, drive governance excellence and lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational risk management, strengthen organisational capability and help ensure everyone goes home safe every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the governance and continual improvement of Fortescue's Major Hazard (Fatality Risk) framework, ensuring consistent enterprise-wide oversight and effective risk management.
- Drive governance of Critical Control Performance Standards, partnering with Major Hazard Steering Groups to strengthen control effectiveness and risk ownership.
- Support the implementation and ongoing maturity of the Continuous Assurance framework through data-driven verification and operational performance monitoring.
- Champion AI, automation and digital technologies to simplify Health & Safety processes, enhance assurance capability and deliver predictive risk insights.
- Partner with Digital, Technology and Operational teams to improve Health & Safety systems, data quality, reporting and enterprise risk management.
- Lead strategic improvement initiatives that strengthen Major Hazard management, governance, operational risk capability and organisational learning.
- Develop and leverage performance dashboards, analytics and leading indicators to monitor control effectiveness, identify emerging risks and support evidence-based decision making.
- Provide enterprise-level strategic advice and second-line assurance to senior leaders, driving governance excellence and continuous improvement across the business.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, Risk Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years' experience in Health & Safety, Operational Risk or Major Hazard management within mining, resources, construction or other high-risk industries.
- Proven experience developing and implementing enterprise Major Hazard, Critical Control or Risk Management frameworks.
- Demonstrated success leading governance, assurance or enterprise risk programs across complex operational environments.
- Experience driving large-scale business improvement, organisational change and transformation initiatives.
- Strong track record establishing governance forums, steering committees and cross-functional stakeholder groups.
- Experience applying digital technologies, automation or AI to improve governance, reporting and operational performance.
- Postgraduate qualifications, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification and investigation qualifications (ICAM, TapRoot, Essential Factors or similar) are highly regarded.
