About the role 

This role is a 4:3 roster, FIFO Darwin or Cairns.

Reporting to the Superintendent Safety & Training, you will be responsible for contributing to the development, governance, and continuous improvement of GEMCO’s safety management standards, procedures, tools and programs to enable the operation to effectively manage safety and risk.

Some of your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Develop and implement safety improvement initiatives
  • Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders including front-line leaders to ensure programs developed are relevant and effective
  • Visibly lead and coach safe behaviours, including risk assessments, workplace interactions and incident investigation processes
  • Timely reporting of safety performance, and the progress of safety improvement programs
  • Provide technical support to the Maintenance department during scheduled Concentrator and Port outages (shutdowns)

About you 

You’ll be a great fit if you have: 

  • Solid background working in a similar role within Mining or Heavy Industry
  • Diploma of Health & Safety and/or Bachelor’s degree (Science/Safety/Engineering or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability in contributing change initiatives
  • Experience in identifying issues, analysing data and recommending practical improvement solutions
  • Ability to influence groups of internal stakeholders through effective data analysis and communication skills
