About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the WA Major Projects HSE – Business Partnering team as a Specialist Safety on a 12-months fixed term contract (FTC) or secondment. The role will support the delivery of the Western Ridge Crusher Project with some wider portfolio support across WA Major Projects as required. The role is site based with a preferred roster of 5/2 4/3, however we encourage applicants to present flexible work options for consideration. 

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent – Western Ridge Crusher Project and joining the wider Mineral Australia Projects (MAP) HSE & Functional Services Teams, this is a great opportunity to utilise skills and experience to apply them in a highly dynamic and agile construction environment. In this role, you will provide safety support and coaching for our project teams including close engagement with our contracting partners to promote improved HSE outcomes within the construction teams. 

In this role you will:  

  • Support Project Delivery Teams in their accountability for HSE risk management, field leadership, event investigation, and compliance to HSE requirements. 
  • Review the quality of HSE risk assessments, event investigation and field leadership. 
  • Coach, influence, and provide technical expertise in service of building HSE capacity and capability within Projects and contracting partners; and support the delivery of the FY25 / FY26 MAP HSE Health and Safety Business Plan as part of cross functional working teams aligned with the FY25 / 26 MAP Functional Plan(s). 
  • Provide support in safety assurance and governance activities for wider Minerals Australia Projects portfolio.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a proven passion for safety and a culture of care. You will also have:  

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Health and Safety or related field. 
  • Enjoy supporting others through mentoring and coaching to achieve collective goals. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in safety, with both internal and external parties. 
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement. 
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities, and consume data to effectivity deliver HSE support. 
  • Strong attention to detail to support HSE accountability for function and project teams. 
  • Able to work across multiple projects providing high level support to multiple project teams 

Location 

You will be based at Newman on a fly-in fly-out 5/2/4/3 roster from Perth. Flexible work options will be considered. BHP Western Australia Iron Ore is developing the Western Ridge Crusher (WRC) Project to sustain the Newman Joint Venture Mining and Processing Hub (NJV Hub) production. The Project will connect existing NJV Hub’s operations to the silver knight and Mt Helen ore deposits located on the western side of Western Ridge. 

The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator, and air-conditioning.
