About the Role

We currently have an opportunity to join our Health, Safety and Environment team as a Safety Specialist at Daunia Mine located within the Bowen Basin.

This is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with one of the world's largest coal producers. In this role, you will provide specialised safety coaching, advice and support for the site leadership team to promote improved safety outcomes and standardisation across the site. The role is offered on a Mon – Thurs roster, reporting directly to the HSE Superintendent. Flexible work options will be considered.

In this role you will:

  • Establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Coach, influence and provide technical expertise to assist in building Safety and Health capacity and capability within operations / site based functions
  • Support line management in their accountability for HSE risk assessments, event classification and investigation, field leadership and compliance to relevant HSE requirements through effective coaching
  • Review and analysis of emerging trends at a site level and support risk owners with the development of safety focused initiatives to improve safety compliance and outcomes
  • Analyse leading and lagging performance trends to develop appropriate response plans for senior leaders to improve safety compliance and outcomes.
  • Monitor the quality of HSE risk assessments, event investigation and field leadership
  • Provide input into safety planning and risk management processes
  • Commit to daily investment in our computer-based event management system for data assessment and quality assurance

About You

You will be a self-motivated professional who is able to coach effectively through strong communication and engagement skills and a solid record of achieving results through influence and mentoring.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine desire to engage and help people
  • Solution focused and action orientated with the capability to meet deadlines and support continuous improvement
  • Previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries is preferable
  • Knowledge of the WHS and QLD Coal Mining legislation is highly desirable
  • Exposure to BHP operating systems is highly desirable
