About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the safety team WA Iron Ore Functions. The role involves partnering with line leadership to provide coaching, technical expertise, direction and advice on safety risk management, field leadership, event & investigation quality and supporting the operation in executing safety best practice.

Location and Roster

This is a 12-month Fixed Term position, with fly-in-fly-out travel (FIFO) from Perth to various WAIO Locations (Northern, Central and Eastern) to support WAIO Functions operating across the Pilbara. It is on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster (3 days travel in the long week and 2 days in the short week).

In this role, you will be required to:

  • Provide support to the operation in the delivery of Safety improvement initiatives, aligned to the Integrated Operations Plan and HSS Business Plan;
  • Participate and facilitate HSE investigations and provide process guidance, coaching and quality review;
  • Support accurate and transparent HSE data reporting and elements of the HSE governance program;
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through ongoing engagement with site leaders, encouraging and coaching quality field verifications and demonstrating expected standards;
  • Facilitate risk assessments and provide quality reviews;
  • Deliver safety training programs to the Operations/Functions i.e. task based risk management, Risk Assessment Facilitation and Field Leadership Quality;
  • Through review of site and industry HSE events, encourage a strong culture of learning and embedment of safety improvements;
  • Support the development of effective work management tools (procedures and work instructions) that achieve positive safety outcomes.

About You

This role will suit a highly capable team player who is motivated to collaborate with site and HSS teams. You will be a confident, self-motivated professional with previous experience in a similar role. Your communication and engagement skills will be strong and you will have a solid record of achieving results. Your attitude, character and a passion for safety is what sets you apart from the crowd.

 The following would be advantageous:

  • Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety Management, Risk Management or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 Years experience in a similar role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in safety.
  • Strong understanding of WHS Mining and General Regulations
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement.
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities and consume data to effectivity deliver safety support.
  • Strong attention to detail to support safety accountability for operations, function and project teams.
  • Minimum of C class Western Australia (or equivalent) drivers’ license
