ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Domestic relocation assistance to Darwin or Cairns from anywhere in Australia is provided.
As the Safety & Training Superintendent, you are responsible for the development, governance, and continuous improvement of GEMCO’s safety management standards, procedures, tools, and programs to enable the operations to effectively manage safety risk. Provide coaching and specialist support to senior and operational leadership teams to embed changes and maintain compliance.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Develop and manage the Training Business Plan, update on progress, and deliver on objectives.
- Work with operational and functional leaders to identify training and development requirements to support business strategies and priorities.
- Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders including front-line and management to ensure programs developed are relevant and effective.
- Deliver specialist, independent, and technically capable safety support, tools, coaching and training to process owners.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Significant experience guiding, developing and influencing practice in health, safety, and training within the Mining or Heavy industry.
- Demonstrated ability to influence groups of internal stakeholders through effective data analysis and communication skills.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of Nationally Recognised Training and AQTF standards.
- A captivating leader who can captivate audiences, drive engagement and inspire change.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree (Science, Engineering or similar) or relevant trade/engineering qualification.
- Diploma in WHS
- Training and Assessment
- Certificate IV Frontline Management/Human Resources (desirable)
