Senior Advisor – RTA Pacific Controllership (Bauxite & Alumina).

About the role

This is a Perth-based role supporting the RTA Pacific Bauxite & Alumina Controllership and is part of the RTA Pacific Controllership team. Working collaboratively with the Business, Finance Business Partners (FBP) and Closing & Reporting team, the key responsibilities include:

  • Act as the primary Controllership contact for Refinery operations, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Prepare, review, and analyse monthly, half-yearly, and annual financial results for both external and management purposes.

  • Identify and investigate accounting issues, connect financial information with business activities, quantify impacts, and prepare accounting position papers.

  • Provide technical accounting and financial advisory support for RTA Pacific B&A Operations, including preparing papers on accounting and reporting treatment for transactions.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, SOX standards, and Rio Tinto’s accounting policies, investigate legacy balances and review Blackline reconciliations.

  • Support half-year and year-end group reporting deliverables, including analytical reviews, disclosure submissions, and management sign-off packs.

  • Partner with operational, commercial, and support teams to enhance financial services provided to the Business Unit.

  • Review Capital Expenditure Applications and contracts to determine accounting implications.

  • Support the Controllership function in standardising and optimising its processes.

  • Assisting with the group reporting and annual statutory audit process, including reviewing general-purpose statutory financial statements and supporting external audits.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with strong technical accounting skills and an accounting certification (CA, CPA, or equivalent).

  • Advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of SAP/BW and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) are highly desirable.

  • Experience with external auditors, Big 4 audit experience, SOx, Tolling operations and Aluminium business is highly desirable.

  • Excellent teamwork, multitasking abilities, and commitment to delivering quality work under time pressure.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, proactive nature, and ability to work independently.

  • A continuous improvement mindset to simplify, standardise processes and reporting.

  • Good business acumen and effective collaboration with colleagues.

  • Management reporting capability and the ability to connect financial information with business activities for insightful analysis.
