Senior Advisor, Corporate Digital Communications

About the role
We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Corporate Digital Communications, to be responsible for supporting, driving and delivering a robust employee communication programme through digital channels (eg intranet, employee app, multimedia, etc).
This role is a great opportunity for a technology savvy practitioner who is passionate about digital communication and how it will shape the future of our organisation. Reporting to the Principal adviser, Corporate Digital Communications, you will:
- Support Rio Tinto’s digital communications strategy and technology evolution.
- Assume a leading role in managing and maintaining Rio Tinto’s global employee app ‘Rio Tinto Connect’, including content publishing, governance, analytics and metrics monitoring and reporting, and providing overall fact-based recommendations for technical, user experience design and site improvements.
- Support and manage Rio Tinto’s global newsletter and communication campaign monitoring platform, Staffbase Emails (formerly Bananatag), and act as first primary point of contact for users and stakeholders to resolve issues and inform on best ways to leverage the tool.
- Support and manage Rio Tinto’s global digital signage programme and cloud application, including establishing and documenting good governance, best practice recommendations for the operation of the programme and system, as well as developing and managing signage templates for our stakeholders across our global sites and offices. Act as primary point of reference for issue tracking, resolution and provide front-end assistance to our key stakeholders.
- Support the general optimization of Rio Tinto’s digital communications software offering and identify consolidation opportunities and improvements for our digital communication tools, as well as support the introduction of new tools.
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with 3rd party vendors who support the employee digital team, including vendor optimisation, cost monitoring, invoice payment and overall vendor relationship management.
- Support the communication teams and other stakeholders in the best use of our digital communications tools and resources.
- Manage common administrative tasks and liaise with IT support to escalate and resolve issues.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree with progressive experience in corporate communications or similar, with clear demonstrated focus on digital channels platforms and tools, including website content management.
- Minimum of 6 years of industry experience working for a large multinational.
- 5-10 years of experience using an industry-leading content management system (CMS) such as Microsoft SharePoint, WordPress, HubSpot or other; including a good handle on the functional makeup of the back-end, global IA and permissions management.
- 5-10 years of experience managing a company intranet and/or another digital communications platform.
- 2-5 years of experience managing a digital signage programme, made up of a distributed network of digital screens.
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS programming languages as well as information architecture (IA) design. Knowledge of other programming languages is a plus but not required.
- Excellent understanding of the principles of good user interface (UI) design, and user experience (UX) design, is a must.
- Knowledge of how to design digital solutions that meet standard WCAG AA accessibility guidelines is a plus.
- Prior experience in launching, managing and optimizing digital communication channels for a large multinational is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in leading project management activities within tight time frames across a globally networked organization.
- Experience in setting best practice principles and controls, and writing/documenting these to instill good governance in the use of a digital tool.
- Experience in reviewing data analytics and correlating the numbers with user behaviour patterns to tell the larger story behind the effectiveness of our digital platforms.
- Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of collaboration and productivity tools with an emphasis on SharePoint, Yammer, Teams, Forms (PowerBI and PowerApps is a plus).
- Knowledge of French is an asset.

Although the role is based in Brisbane, Australia, the scope of your work will cut across all parts of our business worldwide.
