  • Full-time role with flexible mix of work from home or office
  • Be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth – your choice!

About the role

We’re finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic social media professional to join our social media team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Social Media, you will be responsible for producing social media content, applying your design talents and creative ideas to create lively, engaging posts and campaigns. You will also be monitoring issues and risk online, and providing support to product group and functional stakeholders.

You will play a fundamental role in helping execute our strategy, designing and producing high-quality, honest and engaging content across a range of social media accounts, including:

  • Bringing your creativity to the forefront in how we produce content and tell our company’s story – including celebrating Rio Tinto’s 150th birthday this year
  • Using a variety of design and video editing tools, and the ability to adapt quickly to new technology, to produce multimedia content that is engaging and optimised for each channel.
  • Keeping up-to-date with trends across all major social media platforms and what’s happening in our industry to inform content creation that drives channel growth and engagement.
  • Turning complex subject matter into great content, especially in the decarbonisation space as Rio Tinto is on a journey to significantly reduce our carbon emissions.
  • Planning, sourcing, writing, editing and creating social media content, including videos.
  • Collaborating with the digital and content teams, product groups and functions to produce content and facilitate roll-out on riotinto.com and social media channels.
  • Building networks within the business to source leads.
  • Identifying opportunities based on research insights and trends.
  • Analysing social performance across channels and feeding back insights to continuously improve content.
  • Leveraging best practice social expertise and digital insights to optimise our strategy.
  • Ensuring all content is in line with our brand personality, tone of voice and style guide.
  • Community management.

What you will bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communication or other related field
  • Experience working in social media, particularly in the design of social media assets, public relations, journalism and/or digital marketing
  • A solid understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc) and how each platform can be used in different scenarios
  • A hands-on approach
  • Exceptional design and writing skills
  • Experience using CANVA and products in the Adobe Creative Suite; some experience with Digital Asset Management platforms would also be valuable, but not essential
  • Proven track record of producing and delivering content across a broad range of social media channels
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and to manage multiple streams of work simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated creativity to identify and implement trends and opportunities to improve content.

What we offer

  • A safety-focused and inclusive working environment
  • A competitive salary package with annual cash incentive awards (STIP)
  • Access to top tier family-friendly health and medical programs
  • Excellent retirement plan
  • A comprehensive leave policy that covers all moments that matter in life (vacation/annual, paid parental leave, short term sick leave, paid holidays)
  • Ongoing individual wellbeing support for you and your family for personal and professional matters
  • Generous Rio Tinto employee share program
