About the role 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to find, design and implement high‑quality digital solutions to complex business problems across Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operation business. 

Reporting to the Manager, Digital Development, you will play a critical role in shaping end‑to‑end digital solutions by collaborating closely with business stakeholders and technical delivery teams. You will work across the full business value chain — from mining, refining through to smelting — translating business needs into scalable, secure and fit‑for‑purpose digital solutions. 

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment, influencing strategic digital outcomes while remaining hands‑on in solution design and delivery. 

Key accountabilities 

As a Senior Solution Architect, you will:

  • Define, develop and confirm business and functional requirements in collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of the Pacific Operations Digital development strategy and roadmap.
  • Provide functional and solution architecture expertise to digital and broader stakeholder teams.
  • Deliver solution design and implementation estimates and lead software product selection, leveraging knowledge from other SME practitioners.
  • Assess design, applications and systems alternatives and provide recommendation to the business and IT stakeholders.
  • Partner with software engineering and delivery teams to design and implement end‑to‑end digital solutions
  • Manage solution overall quality assurance of the solutions, across the design, build and testing phases of delivery projects, including the review and sign off for design and build deliverables
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of integrated applications to drive consistency with the data models and standards.
  • Participate in and support any procurement related activities on system implementation vendor selection and software product selection.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the digital architecture forum, operational forum and other related governance forum.

What you’ll bring 

 To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or Business Information Systems or relevant disciplines.
  • Strong capability in translating business problems into clear, pragmatic and scalable solution designs
  • Proven experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including business leaders, engineers and external vendors
  • Facilitate development of project scopes, schedules, cost estimates and subsequent detailed engineering. Review contracting plans, engineering and contractor selection and procurement strategies for each initiative to ensure successful completion
  • Responsibilities include working with project sponsors and outside contractors to develop detailed scopes of work to include costs, preparing bid documents, establishing job execution plans, and communicating project schedules, milestones, and progress to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Hands on experience in solution design and/or delivery as an implementation consultant and lead solution architect across various platform, with strong ability to work with different technologies and proposed a solution.
  • Broad knowledge of modern digital architectures, including cloud platforms, OT/IT Systems, integration patterns, data, and application ecosystems
  • Experience working across full solution lifecycles, from concept and estimation through to implementation and operation
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a network organisation across multiple regions/time zones.
  • Demonstrated ability in building good relationships with key business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to translate complex business requirements to functional and technical solutions. 

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience in mining, manufacturing, smelting, refining, or other asset-intensive operational environments.
  • Experience in project pre-sale: scoping, shaping and estimating.
  • Experience designing solutions across IT and OT domains.
  • Experience supporting vendor evaluation, procurement, and implementation partner management.
  • Understanding of industrial architecture and integration models, including the Purdue Model and ISA-95.
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms, integration patterns, data, and analytics ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of cyber security, architecture governance, and risk considerations in industrial environments.
  • Experience working in Agile or product-based delivery environments.
  • Experience in support modeling and service industrialisation.
  • Experience working with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, or other structured architecture methodologies.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure and/or AWS, including designing secure and scalable cloud-based solutions.
  • Relevant architecture, cloud, or delivery certifications.
