About the role
We are looking for a Senior Adviser Strategy to support the development and delivery of the People Function’s strategy, performance and transformation agenda.
This is a great opportunity to build deep capability in strategy, value and transformation while working on enterprise-level priorities. You’ll gain exposure to senior leaders, contribute to high-impact decisions, and develop skills in strategy development, analytics and structured problem-solving. As part of a newly established team, you’ll help shape how the People Function operates and delivers value to the business, while accelerating your own professional growth in a highly visible environment.
Reporting to the Manager Strategy, Performance and Value and working as part of a small, high-impact team, you will provide analytical insight, structured problem-solving and strategic support across a range of priority initiatives. This includes contributing to strategic planning, performance monitoring and the identification of improvement opportunities across the function.
You will support the development of data-driven recommendations on where the function should focus effort, backed by clear analysis, benchmarking and insights. You’ll also contribute to cross-functional “value squad” initiatives, helping diagnose challenges, develop solutions and track value delivery.
A key part of the role involves preparing clear, concise materials for senior stakeholders, translating complex information into compelling and decision-ready outputs. You’ll work closely with leaders across HR, Finance, Digital and broader business teams to support alignment and delivery of outcomes.
About you
You are a structured thinker with strong analytical capability and a passion for solving complex problems and improving how organisations operate.
You will bring:
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Experience in strategy, consulting, performance, transformation or a similar analytical role
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex issues into clear, actionable insights
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to work with data to generate insights and inform recommendations
Ability to influence senior leaders through evidence-based recommendations and compelling storytelling
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing executive papers and Board-quality presentations
Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to delivery
You will establish the disciplines, measures and continuous improvement practices that enable the function to evolve over time, ensuring strategy translates into sustained performance improvements rather than one-off transformation outcomes.
What we offer
Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
Attractive share ownership plan
Company provided insurance cover
Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options
Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)
Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)
Where you’ll be working
The HR function supports 46 000 employees in around 36 countries and operates out of three business hubs in Brisbane, Perth and Montreal. Data science roles have diverse, multi-industry backgrounds and comprehensive skills in the fields of data modelling, engineering, and visualisation as well as advanced analytics techniques including machine learning and optimisation. These skills are used to turn data into information that can be used to make improved decisions that generate a competitive advantage for Rio Tinto.
Applications will close on Friday 3rd July. (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date).
