About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor, State Agreements to take accountability for the delivery of approvals and provision of strategic advice for Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s State Agreements within Western Australia.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional who has the technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to determine the State Agreement approval strategy and secure State Agreement approvals for Rio Tinto’s iron ore projects and ongoing mining operations.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, State Agreements and working in a collaborative and flexible environment within the State Agreements and Approvals team, you will be:

  • Delivering complex State Agreement approvals and providing strategic advice on the State Agreement framework that governs Rio Tinto’s operations. 

  • Complying with notice, reporting and other requirements under the State Agreements.

  • Effective engagement with relevant external stakeholders, including the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

  • Working closely with internal business units and other approvals experts to determine the State Agreement strategy to align with relevant project schedules.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce written reports and documentation of a high standard.

What you’ll bring

  • A good understanding of the legislative framework of Western Australia.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commerce or related discipline is desirable.

  • Strong project management and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce written reports and documentation of a high standard and writing skills.

  • Experience working within the Western Australian approvals regulatory regime in the resource sector.

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills

  • A C Class Manual Drivers licence

This role will be offered on a 5 days on, 2 days off working roster, based in Perth, at our Central Park offices nestled within the city’s CBD.
