At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.Reporting to the Principal Advisor Communications we are looking for a full time Senior Advisor Communications to enhance Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s internal and external communication activity across community partnerships, cultural heritage management and Traditional Owner engagement .

This is a new role within the External Affairs and Communications team and you will be relied on for your expertise in developing strategic communications plans and associated content for a diverse range of audiences. You will be supporting key business projects and managing communication activities to inform, engage and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement strategic and integrated communications plans related to key business priorities.
  • Offer strong project management and coordination skills, particularly in relation to change communications or large/complex projects.
  • Provide sound, effective communications advice and recommendations for individual programs of work and initiatives to senior leaders.
  • Support leaders to identify potentially contentious issues and develop strategic communications to manage risks and protect and enhance reputation.
  • Coordinate the creative development of internal and external communications campaigns.
  • Support or manage communications planning and collateral for all-employee and leader events and webcasts.
  • Monitor and evaluate communications impact.
  • Provide best practice advice on communication content and channels, and effectiveness.

About YouThe successful candidate will be required to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication / interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and build effective partnerships
  • Evidence in providing strategic advice in communications and reputation management.
  • Ability in developing and implementing strategic communications plans that can inform and change perceptions.
  • Experience in creating engaging content for a range of channels, including internal (Yammer, e-newsletters, video, email communications) and external (website, social media, display)
  • Ability to support events and engagement opportunities with stakeholders and partners such as Traditional Owner groups, community groups education institutes and Pilbara business owners.
  • A drive and eagerness to develop your skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, drive outcomes and meet action plans.
  • Microsoft Office skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Third level qualifications in communications, public relations, media or marketing or a related discipline 
  • Experience and understanding of community engagement in particular in relation to Traditional Owner and Indigenous peoples.
