This includes the way we engage with communities and the steps we take to identify and manage social, economic, environmental, cultural, and human rights impacts throughout the life cycle of our projects, from exploration, to project development, to operation and closure.

We are looking for a Senior Advisor Communities and Social Performance (CSP) Studies to advise, implement and deliver key CSP initiatives, systems and programs. Reporting to the Principal CSP Studies you will be responsible for:

  • Operating as a single point of contact for CSP deliverables an allocated hub and coordinating inputs from relevant CSP subject matter experts
  • Planning and scheduling relevant technical CSP inputs necessary to support approvals and
  • studies in a timely and appropriate manner including: heritage surveys, and technical inputs for cultural values assessments, social impact assessments, social economic baseline analysis and Social, Cultural and Heritage Management Plans as part of Part IV EP Act 1986 approvals
  • Supporting preparation and delivery of engagements with Traditional Owners and community stakeholders regarding proposed projects
  • Providing technical advice to the business on CSP requirements and facilitating advice from CSP subject matter experts as required
  • Managing risk profile of Studies hub, ensuring appropriate management plans are in place to minimise impact of business activities on community stakeholders
  • Ensuring all information on respective Studies Hub activities is communicated in a timely manner to relevant CSP SME’s and managers
  • Coordinating and delivering strategic projects
  • Providing coaching and leadership to Specialist CSP Studies and Team Coordinator (as required)

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Significant experience in Environmental Approvals or Environmental Management (Part IV), Social Science, Community Engagement, Life of Mine Planning and Traditional Owner and/or stakeholder engagement or Cultural Heritage Management highly advantageous
  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act, 2021 and/or project development processes in a mining context highly beneficial
  • Strong Project Management skills including scheduling and budget management
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Spatial data system (i.e. ArcGIS) and MS Project experience beneficial
  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant degree preferred but not essential

Where you’ll be working

This role will be based in Perth, Western Australia with site travel as required. This role will support the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Business Unit.
