We are looking for a Senior Advisor Contracts & Procurement to join the Rio Tinto Projects team who will be responsible for overseeing the project procurement and contracting activities within Rio Tinto’s governance framework.

This role is a great opportunity to work within a high performing contracts and procurement team and provide technical advice and support to Project Managers and the broader Project Services team.

Reporting to the Manager Project Contracts & Procurement Studies and working in a challenging and exciting environment, within the Contracts & Procurement Studies team, you will be:

  • Overseeing the procurement and contracting activities of studies and major capital projects ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto Projects’ procedures and Rio Tinto’s governance requirements.
  • Developing and implementing Project Procurement and Contracting Plans.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to support Aboriginal engagement, local procurement and compliance with project Australian Industry Participation Plans.
  • Assessing project risks and incorporating appropriate contractual allocation of those risks.
  • Reviewing all documents from a construction perspective and utilising this experience to ensure that RT’s commercial position is optimised.
  • Endorsing Recommendations for Award and advising on contractor selection.
  • Overseeing the lifecycle of project contracts, from strategy development and tendering through to contract and project close-out.
  • Assist in the management of complex claims.
  • Providing commercial support and advice to Project Managers.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Degree qualification in Law/Business/Commerce or Engineering or similar.
  • Extensive hands on experience in Contracts and Procurement attained within a project environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of project management and contracts and procurement concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing construction contracts and familiarity with risks associated with construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex claims such as prolongation, acceleration and disruption claims.
  • Thorough understanding of the key commercial and legal issues impacting projects.
  • You should also be passionate about delivering pragmatic, optimised solutions and have a drive for results and appetite for constructive challenge.
