About the role
Rio Tinto Energy Development is focused on the development of renewable energy to decarbonise the company’s existing operations and support future growth in green materials essential to progress. Opportunities to decarbonise and grow are being assessed in high quality renewable energy regions across the globe, each with their own market context and development models. As we continue to build upon this key part of our business, we’re now looking to appoint a Senior Advisor – Energy System Development.
- Provide analytical support for a range of business development activities, including evaluation of commercial agreements and transactions, advanced financial modelling, and risk analysis.
- Develop and maintain energy system and market models in a range of jurisdictions to support business decision making.
- The role will deliver energy modelling in multiple regions including in Australia, Canada, and other geographies.
About you:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a commercial or technical discipline
- Ability to scope energy system design and complete advanced cash-flow analysis of project economics in a range of locations
- Track record of supporting business decision making in renewables with a good understanding of competitive wholesale electricity markets
- Previous experience in quantitative modelling, including risk analysis of options across both medium and long-term scenarios
- An ability to apply linear optimisation modelling techniques/expertise to an array of electricity problems and assessment of energy vector opportunities
- An understanding of the key drivers of renewables systems, and a background in utilising relevant software packages (e.g. PLEXOS/Homer etc.)
- Exceptional attention to detail, highly developed analytical skills and ability to challenge assumptions
- Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to build relationships and excellent writing skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a small and dynamic team
