As a Senior Advisor – Environment, you will interact closely with our key Pacific Operations assets across bauxite mining, refining, and smelting by providing technically sound and timely advice.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years industry experience of relevance to the role, degree qualification in environmental science, management or similar, working knowledge of State (ideally Queensland) and Commonwealth environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Reporting to the Environment Business Partner and working collaboratively with the Principal Advisor – Approvals and Compliance, this role is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Assist with the implementation and coordination of baseline environmental study programs to satisfy internal and external information requirements.
- Assist in preparing targeted communications for key stakeholders including but not limited to traditional owners, site management, supervisors, contract partners and other Rio Tinto employees.
- Work closely with project study teams and other complimentary disciplines in the delivery of key study stages.
- Assist with environmental schedule development, budget, consultant selection and management.
- Assist in the preparation, delivery and management of State and Commonwealth environmental approvals.
- Develop and maintain strong, respectful working relationships with project personnel, consultants, and contractors to ensure smooth implementation of site-based work programs and efficient report delivery.
- Manage, collate, and analyse environmental data to inform project environmental design criteria, performance trending and assist with incident management and regulatory response.
- Adheres and commits to Health, Safety, Environment, Communities, Ethics and Integrity policies and procedures.
What you’ll bring

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related discipline
- 5+ years experience in permitting and approvals within Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislative frameworks
- Project management experience, including budget oversight and scheduling
- Proven capability in the analysis and presentation of environmental data; and
- Ability to work autonomously with reliability and accuracy
