Led by the Chief Decarbonisation Officer, the Energy & Climate team works collaboratively across the business to drive delivery of the Group climate strategy and address our key sources of carbon emissions
About the role

The newly established Decarbonisation Office (DO) is central to Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation investment decisions, responsible for interrogating projects and ultimately recommending and deploying the Group’s capital into its most attractive decarbonisation investments. The DO is also responsible for carbon accounting and providing senior leadership with advanced strategic insights.
We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Integrated Carbon Planning who will be the primary custodian for the Group’s abatement model and the foundation of the Group’s ’one source of truth’.
Reporting to Manager – Carbon Planning you will own, develop and maintain Rio Tinto’s central carbon forecasting and abatement model.
You will be responsible for:
- Owning Rio Tinto’s integrated carbon forecast model, used for a wide range of performance tracking purposes
- Consolidating, tracking and reconciling progress of the Global Decarbonisation Programs’ (GDP) abatement projects
- Generating Rio Tinto’s business as usual carbon forecasts for annual plan and long-term plan processes
- Providing clear and unbiased insights into Rio Tinto’s central and risk adjusted delivery pathways
- Providing concise analysis into the cost and valuation tradeoffs of different carbon planning scenarios
- Co-ordinating with Manager Decarbonisation Investment to develop portfolio optimisation strategies for decarbonisation funding
- Providing oversight of abatement project data and reporting quality
- Providing key data inputs for reporting to the GDP delivery teams
- Supporting the development of strategies for Rio Tinto Offsets and Nature Solutions
About you
- A background in finance, project controls or data analysis
- Thorough and meticulous approach to model ownership
- Highly structured mindset with high attention to quality controls
- Extensive data management experience, including developing, overseeing, organising, storing, and analysing data and data systems
- Solid knowledge of carbon and valuation methodologies and principles
- Pro-active approach to modelling improvement and development of automation opportunities
- Ability to clearly articulate project performance variances
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
