Within our company wide Information Systems & Technology function, we are building an internal software development and delivery team focusing on high value and strategic products for the digital transformation of Rio Tinto.

About the role

The Senior Advisor Program reports to the Manager Program within the Products & Software Development team.

Senior Advisor Program is part of the Program team – our central programme and portfolio management office supporting the Delivery Stream, Technical Stream and People, Development & Recruitment stream of this new function. As the successful applicant you will help design, lead and operationalise the underlying systems and processes to support the important challenge of establishing and scaling the Products & Software Development function. 

Accountabilities

Funding Model

  • Contribute to design of processes to enable effective and consistent management of functional and project budgets
  • Monitor and review programme and portfolio economics to include costs, operational budgets, staffing, resourcing, and risks.

Governance (including Project Management Framework for P&SD Agile product delivery) 

  • Support the development, production and maintenance of business cases and proposals
  • Assist in the establishment, maintenance and continual improvement of the required corporate governance practices within those set broadly by the Office of the CIO (project control processes, tools, techniques, and assurance)
  • Implementation of project control processes and tools, including the monitoring of effectiveness
  • Initiate and maintain effective integration to utilise Project Services team 

Operating Model/Ways of Working

  • Participate in the establishment and design of P&SD operating model, team routines and rituals, effective processes to enable performance of each team within each phase.
  • Drive operationalising the Operating Model to ensure P&SD deliver quality products and platforms to our customers.
  • Support business process and system enablement improvement to maximise delivery team flow and productivity
  • Lead improvement initiatives and effectively communicate the progress and outcome to the stakeholders.

Partner Relationship

  • Provide data and systems to support the effective maintenance and improvement of vendor performance management, including performance reporting and metrics establishment.

Establish/Develop P&SD Reporting

  • Contribute to the design, operationalisation and ongoing evolution of whole of function performance management reporting.

Integration & Stakeholder Engagement/Management

  • Monitor functional performance progress against scaling plans, and agreed criteria, and facilitates effective and supportive dialogue across the leadership team
  • Enable effective communications and collaboration across the function, and to all stakeholders in IS&T

About you

  • Capable of operating and communicating with stakeholders at various levels of the business
  • People and team focussed with good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships
  • Robust collaborative skills in alignment to Rio Tinto values of courage, care and curiosity at all times
  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level or holds relevant professional qualification
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in project development and is familiar with the project development life cycle and typical issues associated with the implementation of IT projects
  • Deep skillset in designing processes, documenting and continual improvement and iteration in line with stakeholder engagement and feedback
  • Rich analysis experience and skills: data, building reports, evolving to an automated solution
  • Financial/accounting skills 
  • Proactive, self-motivated and takes initiative
  • Proven ability to identify improvement opportunities and manage improvement requests from the business, including the service/process review activities
  • Experience in delivering in Agile, or working within Agile team constructs is an advantage
