We are looking for a Senior Advisor Project Practices / Project Controls to support the Project Practices & Improvement (PPI) team. This role can be offered as a permanent full time, or permanent part time opportunity (80% FTE) for the right candidate. Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Project Practices and working in a challenging, supportive and exciting environment within the Project Practices team, you will be:

  • Managing and driving the Rio Tinto Projects methodology (PM+) process/content improvements, changes, and updates.
  • Ensuring projects methodology guidance notes, templates and other documents comply to the required review cycles and follow appropriate document control processes. This includes proactive and timely liaison with the required RT Projects and business partners teams for driving content reviews, and engagement with the project data management team.
  • Providing support to project controls teams and the PPI Reporting team related to reporting processes and systems, including support during month-end reporting processes.
  • Coordinating the project practices assurance (Current State Assessment) programme, including managing stakeholder engagements, coordinating reviews, report consolidation and closeout management of actions and liaison with the Integrated Assurance Office.
  • Support the PPI team communications and engagement with stakeholders, including setting up and hosting Community of Practice (CoP) meetings.
  • Assisting with various process and system improvements, including change management, training and coaching.
  • Developing presentations and communications in support of practices and systems updates.
  • Supporting administration and updates of Project Services systems, such as the reporting system and project controls system. This includes partnering with the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) area for managing system upgrades, improvements and resolving system issues, and coordinating user/project requests or vendor requests.

What you will bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Qualification in STEM, project management, or business.
  • Experience in project controls within a large construction project.
  • Understanding of processes and systems, including project management practices and methodologies. This includes good understanding of planning, cost control and progress measurement practices and related KPIs.
  • Strong working knowledge of project control processes (cost, risk, estimating and scheduling) and the tools used to deliver a sound governance function.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Consulting experience.
  • Experience in PMO with structured approach to govern projects and portfolio.
  • Experience in project and portfolio reporting.
  • Experience in projects analytics and reporting systems.
