We are looking for a Senior Advisor Simulation Development to join our team of simulation model developers. Working primarily in Python, utilising Simpy for the creation and ongoing development of discrete event simulation models to support the business in strategic and operational decision making.
Reporting to the Principal – Simulation Model Development and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Value Chain Performance team, some of the responsibilities you may be required to undertake are:
Scope, design and implement new models, or new features into existing discrete event simulation models
Manage your own delivery of multiple work streams against business deadlines and prioritisations
Engage with business stakeholders to understand the scope of and clarify requirements of simulation modelling requests
Work alongside the modelling insights delivery team to make sure the models are being used in a way that is fit for purpose and results are being properly interpreted and represented
Provide explanations of model performance and assist in discrepancy analysis of model results
What you’ll bring
Experience with programming and object orient software development in Python
Understanding of Simulation approaches, in particular discrete event simulation
An awareness of the Iron Ore value chain
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Ability to think critically and to collaborate within a technical team
Ability to engage with and effectively communicate with business stakeholders to understand requirements, scope and necessary details of business processes we are modelling
Ability to effectively communicate the value, limitations and opportunities modelling can provide to business stakeholders including project scoping and results communication
High Curiosity and a willingness to learn about all areas of the iron ore value chain in Rio Tinto
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Experience with querying databases and manipulating operational data for exploring real operational behavior and validating model outcomes
Iron Ore supply chain knowledge
Experience with the Simpy simulation library
A tertiary qualification in mathematics, software development or data science

Where you’ll be working
You and your team will be Perth based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. Our wider team is spread across a combination of Perth and Pilbara Resource Development sites. This role is open to both full time and part time applicants. There will be some Pilbara site visits required, however this can be accommodated on a very flexible basis.
