We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning to join the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Strategic Production Planning (SPP) team. The SPP team, part of Iron Ore’s Strategy Division, plays a pivotal role in critical decision-making for the iron ore business including, optimizing the Pilbara mine development sequence, and informing business strategy and capital investment decisions.

Reporting to the Principal – Strategic Production Planning, you will:

  • Be a proactive member of the team who is responsible for creating and maintaining the mineral inventory assets used in strategic planning optimisation
  • Be a key contributor to the end of year Reserve and Resource reporting process
  • Be responsible for undertaking wide ranging and high-quality analysis into Rio Tinto’s iron ore mineral assets to support key strategic projects and investment decisions by generating strategic level Pilbara mine plans using in-house tools
  • Represent the SPP team on major studies (>$250m), providing clear, relevant and timely strategic guidance to the study lead and subject matter experts
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with a wide range of internal Rio Tinto Divisions including Resource Development, Mine Technical Services, Business Analysis, Studies and Technical Marketing

What you’ll bring

  • An unwavering commitment to safety of yourself and all those around you
  • A degree in a mining related field, such as science, engineering or mathematics
  • Experience with geological models and/or geo metallurgical product predictions and/or be familiar with iron ore mineralisation styles and genesis
  • Good understanding of end-to-end mining processes and key value drivers
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate raw information into strategic insights
  • Highly skilled at Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated with a curious and pragmatic mindset

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of the iron ore and steel industry
  • Experience in SQL and capability to create PowerBI dashboards and reports
  • An understanding of valuation techniques and discounted cashflow models

The role will be based at Central Park Perth CBD.
