We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Valuation and Financial Modelling to join the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Strategic Production Planning (SPP) team. The SPP team, part of Iron Ore’s Strategy Division, plays a pivotal role in critical decision-making for the iron ore business including, optimizing the Pilbara mine development sequence, and informing business strategy and capital investment decisions.

Reporting to the Manager – Strategic Production Planning, you will:

  • Be responsible for undertaking financial analysis at an integrated Pilbara system level to support decision making by senior leaders
  • Communicate the value impact for different business strategies though comprehensive analysis coupled with strong communication skills
  • Support continuous improvement of current SPP financial models and tools as well as development of new ones
  • Be responsible for supporting operating and capital costs updates for new and existing projects across Mine, Rail and Port infrastructure
  • Be the SPP lead on major studies (>$250m), providing clear, relevant and timely strategic guidance to the study lead and team
  • Generate strategic level Pilbara mine plans using in-house tools
  • Work closely and engage with several Divisions including Business Analysis, Economics, Technical Marketing, Studies, Major Projects and Mine Planning

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Financial/ Commercial field or relevant post-graduate qualifications
  • Good understanding of valuation/discounted cashflow models
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to translate raw information into strategic insights
  • Highly skilled at Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated with a curious mindset

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience within the resource sector
  • Experience in and understanding of optimisation and other numerical and statistical models
  • Capability to create PowerBI dashboards and reports
