About the role

Join our inclusive and diverse MP&E function here at Rio Tinto, as a Senior Advisor – Systems Deployment.

This role plays a crucial role in technical leadership during solution design, defining deployment approaches and providing guidance during project execution.

Reporting to the Principal Systems Engineering Delivery, you will be responsible for the below duties :

Technology Leadership and Guidance:

  • Provide high-level technical direction and oversight to ensure technology is applied efficiently and effectively

  • Lead the interface with IT project delivery and operational groups to ensure alignment on systems integration

  • Guide feasibility studies, ensuring alignment with long-term technology strategy

  • Mentor and coach engineering resources, fostering professional growth and development

  • Ensure that the team maintains high competence and operational excellence

  • Ensure robust risk management practices are in place, identifying and mitigating strategic risks

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to drive project success

  • Serve as the point of contact for technology support leadership, facilitating effective communication and cooperation

  • Promote cross-functional collaboration to leverage expertise and resources for technology initiatives

  • Engage with industry bodies and external partners to stay abreast of technological advancements and best practices

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and operational efficiency

  • Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and processes to maintain competitive advantage

  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the engineering teams

  • Identify and implement process improvements to achieve cost savings and operational efficiencies

  • Foster an environment of experimentation and innovation, encouraging teams to explore new solutions

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills

  • Leadership and mentoring abilities to guide and develop engineering teams

  • Communication and negotiation skills to manage stakeholder expectations and convey complex technical concepts

  • Deep technical expertise and a proven track record of implementing operational technology solutions in the resources or manufacturing industry

  • Experience deploying projects in a Systems Engineering framework or Software Development Lifecycle

  • Understanding of industry standard and best practice automated, autonomous, and intelligent system technologies

  • Thorough understanding of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and robust risk management practices

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and promote cross-functional collaboration

  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver's License (Manual)

This role is offered on a 5 day a week, working roster, from our offices in Perth, based in Central Park, with flexibility and working from home options available.
