About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor to provide insightful and proactive commercial advise, strategic decision support and project management within Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO) Strategy team.

RTIO Strategy is in the privileged position to work with senior leadership on issues at the forefront of key business decisions. We are a driven, cross functional and diverse team supporting the development and implementation of the organisations strategy.

Responsibilities include opportunity generation with consideration of competitive advantages and industry position, implementing strategies and tactics to generate sustainable business value, and building and embedding Rio Tinto’s corporate strategy aligned with key strategic objectives including ‘Best Operator’, ‘Excel in Development’, ‘Impeccable ESG Credentials’ and ‘Social License’.

Reporting to the Manager of Iron Ore Strategy, the successful candidate is a natural thought leader that will:

  • Oversee and drive the progress of the business against key strategic initiatives;
  • Recommend and influence improvements to existing business strategies to drive growth;
  • Support the preparation of strategic business cases and presentation material to senior leadership;
  • Conduct research, including industry and competitive analysis;
  • Plan and conduct collaborative workshops across multiple disciplines;
  • Support development of management reporting; and
  • Provide input into strategic planning processes in the form of financial modelling and analysis.

  • Be an stablished collaborator with the ability to influence and build rapport across all levels of the organisation including senior leadership;
  • Is a natural problem solver with a curious mindset;
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Has strong commercial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to translate raw information into strategic insights;
  • Have an undergraduate degree in a technical, commercial and/or legal discipline;
