Rio Tinto has recently established a dedicated team to deliver large renewable energy solutions across our major jurisdictions. Rio Tinto Energy Development is focused on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of Rio Tinto’s existing industrial operations and support the future growth of the company.
About the role
The Senior Commercial Analyst role will sit within RTED Western Australia team. The Pilbara represents a naturally advantaged region for low cost renewable energy, creating significant opportunities for Rio Tinto. Western Australia is one of RTED's core regions. The Western Australia Renewable Energy Development team will initially be focused on delivering 1 GW of renewable energy in the Pilbara with the intention to ultimately scale up to decarbonise our entire system in the Pilbara and provide further growth optionality. The team will develop a portfolio of wind and solar assets, with a dedicated focus on project delivery at a competitive pace and cost.
As we continue to build upon this key part of our business, we are now looking for a Senior Analyst – Commercial. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this role is predominately accountable for undertaking financial modelling and providing commercial insights to support business case development. Key role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain fit for purpose project finance models for the renewable portfolio
- Leverage financial analysis to share commercial insights to stakeholders and leadership
- Partner with and influence internal stakeholders to drive alignment of strategic and commercial goals for the renewable portfolio
- Support the development of the Integrated System Plan (ISP) for the Pilbara operations
- Supporting transaction due diligence and deal execution process
- Support preparation of proposals for Investment Committee and executive leadership submissions
This position will be based in our Perth office. This newly created position can offer a number of flexible work arrangement options including flexible hours, part time, or job share arrangements.
About you
- Demonstrated experience in building robust financial models and undertaking commercial analysis
- Background in a transactional environment in a Big 4 accounting firm or project finance or investment bank is desirable
- Experience in and good understanding of renewable energy projects will be advantageous
- Experience in electricity market analysis and modelling, would be highly regarded, but not essential
- Team-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Strong communication, stakeholder, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and presentation format and to tailor the message to a variety of audiences
- Highly motivated with the ability to work autonomously and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional attention to detail, highly developed analytical skills, and an ability to challenge assumptions
