About the role
We are looking for 2x Senior Analyst - Insights to solve complex problems and deliver outcomes that maximise value across Integrated Operations System Insights areas of influence at Rio Tinto. This is a great opportunity for a critical thinking individual who loves working with data, liaising with key stakeholders, and transforming information into a story, which is pivotal for the success of Rio Tinto’s supply chain and business performance.
Reporting to the Principal Systems Analytics and Insights and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Integrated team across Insights and Improvement, some of the responsibilities you may be required to undertake are:
- Develop and maintain the integrity of Rio Tinto Iron Ore reconciliation reports.
- Analyse data, identify trends and provide insights using a data driven approach.
- Identify improvement opportunities to evaluate and report on performance within the Quarterly Forecast and Reconciliation Process.
- Provide explanations for deviations against planned performance and identify risks to future performance.
- Provide guidance and coaching to develop the capabilities of the Analysts and improve / develop tools to help articulate key messaging.
What you’ll bring
- A background in Mining/Ports/Rail/Processing and an understanding of the value chain from Mine to Market
- Understanding of the Quarterly Forecast parameter and planning process within Rio Tinto Iron Ore
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A strong understanding of the Iron Ore value chain
- Ability to think critically and to collaborate and built trust with a wide range of stakeholders across the business to solve complex problems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – ability to distil complex information into readily understood key messages & to present this to a wide range of audiences
- High Curiosity and a willingness to learn about all areas of the iron ore value chain in Rio Tinto
- Familiarity with statistics and their application to understanding and improving process performance
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Capable of building Power BI models
- Experience with programming languages e.g., SQL, python, R
- Mine planning experience
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering or data science
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Data Science or equivalent.

Where you’ll be working
This role will be primarily based at our Perth Operations Centre near the Perth Airport. There will be the requirement to be located at our Central Park building office in the Perth CBD on a semi-regular basis and ad hoc travel to our Pilbara sites will form part of the role.
