Then this is an excellent opportunity for you to join BHP's Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) function. The PS&D team is comprised of over 150 employees around the world with expertise across Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Business Development, Transaction Analysis, Decision Evaluation, Venture Investments, Corporate Planning and Strategy. This role sits within the Transaction Analysis team, whose purpose is to ensure the decision-making and evaluation of every acquisition, divestment and new business development opportunity undertaken by BHP is clear, well informed and backed up by robust, high-quality analysis. As a result, the successful candidate will play a central role in the evaluation and execution of strategic transactions at BHP.

We are seeking candidates to join our team with opportunities available in Brisbane or Perth. Reporting to the Head of Transaction Analysis, the role is responsible for: 

  • Conducting financial and strategic analysis to evaluate potential transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, divestitures and business development opportunities to support the shaping of BHP’s future portfolio.
  • Developing financial models and valuations to support transaction decisions
  • Communicating and present findings, insights and recommendations to senior management and other key stakeholders
  • Working with internal and external cross-functional transaction teams to influence and challenge thinking
  • Supporting the execution of transactions, including negotiation and drafting of agreements. 

About You

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to engage with a range of senior stakeholders, communicate with influence and have a strong commitment to team work and collaboration. 

In addition, it is expected that candidates hold the following technical capabilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in a finance related field, or alternatively a technical undergraduate degree with a post graduate qualification in a finance discipline
  • Prior experience in investment banking, consulting, corporate finance or a transaction analysis related role 
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, to present complex ideas in a simple and articulate way
  • Ability to build rapport and strong working relationships across diverse teams
  • Experience in the resources industry is desirable, but not essential.
