About the Role

Digital Product Development is Coal’s approach to rapid opportunity identification, assessment, valuation, and prioritisation of digital products that fundamentally change BHP’s performance across safety, productivity, and people performance.  

The (Digital Product Development) DPD Discovery Specialist role extends to the tasks around the Discovery processes and supports our Coal Technology and BMA Function in assessing and valuing the pipeline of potential digital projects, de-risking any product development.   

The work

As the DPD Discovery Specialist, you will play a role in the BMA Technology function driving a digital mindset and defining future value solutions for our business. 

You will identify where we can find value in our digital pipeline and determine the how for unlocking this value. This role is critical in ensuring only high value opportunities progress to development, as part of the Discovery process.

You will support our Discovery process by working with Technology and business stakeholders to drive outcomes over a short period of time. Taking our customers on the journey.

This pivotal role in a small team of technical and business specialists comes with excellent learning and development opportunities, and exposure to a wide range of business areas.   

Key responsibilities are:

  • Using technical and business acumen to identify and understand our business problems, respectfully challenging ideas, and prioritizing opportunities based on value. 
  • Creatively solving problems, and identifying value, using data and understanding of business process.
  • Building business partnerships and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders of opportunities, as well as influencing people towards the common goal of value delivery for BMA. 
  • Cross functional alignment and engagement, including the facilitation of workshops.
  • Developing recommendations for the progression (or not) of opportunities into product development, based on value vs effort of a solution. 
  • Confidently presenting these ideas, results and recommendations to stakeholders, tailoring the narrative / information to the audience.
  • Coordinating sessions with external vendors and service providers as part of solution options analysis.

About You

  • Industrial, Commercial or Business Qualifications 
  • Strategic, proactive, and a customer-centric mindset
  • Strong communication, presentation (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to produce and clearly articulate outputs of analysis to stakeholders
  • Ability to drive collaboration in a cross functional team environment and work effectively across all levels in the organization 
  • Knowledge of mining industry, preferably Coal
  • Basic Data Science / Analytics knowledge 
  • Hypothesis driven and demonstrated problem-solving skills and continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to operate at a fast pace in a dynamic environment, working to tight deadlines and triaging priorities
  • Positive, respectful and empathetic
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools and frameworks advantageous (Spotfire, Tableau, Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, Amazon Quicksight, or equivalent)
