About The Product Team You’ll Be Joining
We are committed to making a meaningful difference to the 49,000 people across Rio Tinto as they do their day-to-day jobs through our software. To do that well, and to deliver on our promises as a business, we know that user-centred approaches to software development matters. Across the landscape of software products needed to support a business of our size, we need to grow our Business Analysis team to several times its current size. What You’ll Do
As a Senior Business Analyst (Product) you will be:
- Researching to understand different stakeholders’ needs, in order to translate them into requirements and software features.
- Defining the product specifications and acceptance criteria to help design, deploy and adopt custom software products within the company.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (designers, product owners, solution architects, software developers, testers) to design and deliver elegant, compelling, and user-friendly products.
- Applying various business analysis techniques (example: interviews, workshops, prioritization, acceptance, and evaluation criteria) to create valuable inputs for the cross-functional team.
- Creating and keeping up to date the product backlog in coordination with the product owner/manager (creating user stories and acceptance criteria from the product vision and epics).
- Working closely with engineering teams and ensuring that user stories are implemented in line with the product vision and timelines.
- Working closely with the user experience (UX) team to effectively understand user needs, the end-to-end user experience, and then translate those details into product requirements.
- Confidently building working relationships and partnering with a variety of senior level stakeholders across the business while you build rich understanding of business domains.
- Working on projects of varying lengths and complexity while helping to elevate our team’s capabilities around business analysis and product development.

- You are a business analyst who is naturally curious, passionate about our customers, and driven to create products that are accessible, functional, and consistent across Rio Tinto’s portfolio.
- You can effectively analyse and breakdown complex business problems and translate them into logical, simple components that can be brought into the development process.
- You can facilitate effective communication between various organizational units, either internal or external to the team.
- You have worked in business environments where compliance with relevant legislation and regulations is essential.
- You have demonstrated adaptability for working in unfamiliar contexts: business domain, project life cycle, team-specific ways of working.
- You have experience is measuring and monitoring product performance to ensure the expected business outcomes are being met.
- You are willing to communicate, advise on best practice, build consensus and rapport with different stakeholders: our internal users, product owners, developers, leadership team and user experience (UX) designers.
- You are comfortable working in a high pace and iterative environment across cross-functional teams and can simplify complex problems.
- You appreciate big picture thinking & problem solving and while details are everything, creating an experience that always keeps our users in mind is equally important.
- You demonstrate alignment with Rio Tinto’s values of Care, Courage and Curiosity.
And it’s essential that you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business or other related discipline, or equivalent experience or training.
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Product Owner applying modern software development planning and delivery techniques (including defining business requirements and creating user stories).
- Demonstrable ability to translate business needs into solution requirements and define those in a written format that allows engineering teams to align behind the product vision.
- Worked with cross-functional teams using agile methodology from inception through implementation to deliver impactful software products.
- Experience in creating and implementing efficient solutions to optimise the customer journey and user experience.
