Roster: Monday to Friday.
The Senior Business Planning Analyst supports operational and strategic decision-making through forward-looking financial planning, performance analysis, and insights across Metals and Energy portfolios. Working in a fast-paced mining environment, the role requires strong analytical capability, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to manage competing priorities while supporting senior leadership decisions.
The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented, with the ability to influence outcomes through data-driven insights. Strong mining and operational knowledge is preferred, along with the ability to understand and interrogate the key business drivers.
Reporting to the Principal Business Planning Analyst, this role is heavily focused on Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), including three-way financial modelling, quarterly forecasting, long-term planning, and cost analysis, alongside advanced use of planning and reporting systems.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Key participant in the consolidation and coordination of budgets and quarterly forecasts across Metals and Energy portfolios.
- Analyse integrated three-way financial models (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow) to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Support quarterly forecast submissions, ensuring accuracy, alignment, and timely delivery within tight corporate reporting deadlines.
- Perform detailed analysis of C1 costs and Cost of Production (COP), providing insights into operational performance, cost drivers, and improvement opportunities.
- Support long-term Life of Mine (LOM) planning through financial analysis, scenario modelling, and forecasting, including long-term capital and revenue planning aligned to operational and strategic priorities.
- Provide forward-looking commercial insights and recommendations to support business performance and value creation.
Strategic Planning & Business Performance
- Support strategic initiatives across the organisation, including scenario analysis and strategic option evaluation.
- Contribute data-driven insights and recommendations to support strategic targets and decision-making.
- Assist in driving continuous improvement initiatives across planning, forecasting, and financial governance processes.
Data, Systems & Reporting
- Collect, analyse, and interpret financial, operational, and market data to support business planning and decision-making.
- Act as a power user across financial planning, reporting, and capital portfolio systems, ensuring data integrity, governance, usability, and reporting accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, reporting, and planning processes to enhance efficiency, data quality, and business capability.
- Prepare high-quality reporting packs, presentations, and briefing materials for the GM Business Planning and senior leadership.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Build strong relationships across finance, operations, and corporate functions in a highly collaborative environment.
- Communicate complex financial and operational information clearly and concisely to a broad range of stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, or CFA are highly preferred
- 5–7+ years’ experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), business planning, commercial analysis, or similar roles.
- Experience within the mining, resources, or capital-intensive sectors is strongly preferred, including an understanding of mining operations, commercial drivers, planning processes, C1 costs, Cost of Production (COP), Life of Mine planning, and long-term capital forecasting. Candidates with a demonstrated willingness and capability to rapidly learn mining systems and operational environments will also be considered
