Position Title: Senior Category Specialist 

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday - Friday

Role overview:

This role will support Fortescue’s International Minerals Exploration teams with the development and execution of contracts and development and management of procurement processes and documentation that support Fortescue requirements outside of Australia. 

The Senior Category Specialist will provide specialist procurement advice on a category/range of categories to assist stakeholders to plan, develop, source, and manage procurement arrangements to meet organisational and business objectives effectively and efficiently.

Additionally, the Senior Category Specialist will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to team members in the categories under management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Effectively deliver value to the International Minerals Exploration Teams through managing and guiding sourcing processes, execution of contracts and contract management, including assignment of priorities for procurement activities.
  • Category management and strategic sourcing – provide oversight to team members regarding the development of category strategies and effectively managing the end-to-end sourcing process.
  • Negotiating – lead the development of negotiation strategies for complex, high risk and high value contracts, which drive value for Fortescue.
  • Governance and risk management - ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management and the identification, assessment, and treatment of risk.
  • Analysis & reporting - effective analysis and reporting of relevant data at all stages of the procurement lifecycle.
  • Business partnering and commercial acumen - create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders at a senior management level to ensure full alignment of procurement effort with business needs and opportunities.

Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced procurement function.
  • Leadership capability and the capacity to mentor and develop category specialists and officers.
  • French speaking desirable
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Commerce, Law or similar (including a CIPS qualification) and Graduate Degrees in Supply Chain, Business or Commerce is desirable.
