For you, this is an exciting opportunity to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, and help shape the future of one of Australia's leading copper businesses.

About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a well-established copper-gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.

Located 650km north-west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining on an 8/6 FIFO roster.

A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.

About the Role

As Senior Contracts Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, compliant, and commercially effective contract management across the Mining Department at Prominent Hill. Working closely with operational leaders, contractors, and business partners, you will help optimise contractor performance while ensuring governance, safety, and commercial obligations are consistently met.

This is a highly visible role that provides the opportunity to influence operational outcomes, strengthen contractor partnerships, and drive continuous improvement across a diverse portfolio of mining-related contracts. Your ability to balance commercial outcomes with operational priorities will be key to delivering value for the business while supporting a strong safety culture.

Based at site on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta, you will spend time both in the field and in the office, maintaining a strong connection with operational teams and contractor partners.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of site-based contracts in accordance with contractual obligations and operational requirements.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing application of the Copper SA Contractor Management Framework, including contractor onboarding, mobilisation, assurance, and compliance activities.
  • Act as a key interface between site operations and contractor partners, building strong working relationships and maintaining an active field presence.
  • Monitor contractor performance and identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, operational reliability, and cost performance.
  • Provide commercial support through budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, contract administration, and performance reporting activities.
  • Contribute to the development of a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture across site teams and contractor work groups.
  • Support governance processes, risk management activities, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance contract outcomes across the operation.

About You

You are an experienced contracts, commercial, or engineering professional who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment. You build trusted relationships with stakeholders, communicate effectively across all levels of the business, and take a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

You will also bring:

  • Strong experience in contracts administration, contract management, or contractor performance management within mining, resources, construction, infrastructure, or heavy industry.
  • Well-developed commercial acumen with experience supporting contract governance, compliance, and performance outcomes.
  • Understanding of technical contracts and procurement
  • Experience working with operational teams to manage contractor mobilisation, performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence positive outcomes across multiple work groups.
  • A proactive mindset with a demonstrated focus on continuous improvement, cost management, and operational efficiency.
  • A commitment to safety leadership and fostering an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing team culture.
  • Experience within surface mining, underground mining, or large-scale industrial operations will be highly regarded.
