Title: Senior Control Systems Engineer – Green Fleet Development

Work location: Perth based (CBD and Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 roster

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet, rail locomotive and marine vessels.

We are searching for experienced Senior Control Systems Engineers to join our team on the revolutionary Zero Emission Infinity Train project. This project is crucial in achieving carbon neutrality for FMG's locomotive fleet and achieving FMG's goal of zero emissions by 2030.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Responsible for design, development and delivery of the control systems, safety systems and SCADA/HMI components for the Infinity Train project
  • Develop control systems requirements, specifications, test/commissioning procedures and control interface documentation
  • Work in the multidisciplinary engineering project teams to contribute successful delivery of the project
  • Support and implement quality engineering processes
  • Troubleshoot software issues at test benches and prototype vehicles
  • Manage control systems software and configuration versioning and release

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor of Electrical, Control Systems or Mechatronics Engineering
  • 10+ years’ experience in control systems development, PLC and SCADA/HMI programming, testing and commissioning
  • Solid foundation in industrial communications protocols; OPC UA, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, CAN, CANopen, J1939 etc.
  • Experience with Siemens PLCs, PILZ or HIMA safety PLCs, Ignition SCADA preferred.
  • Functional Safety qualification from TÜV/Exida or similar preferred
  • Rail control systems experience and knowledge of CENELEC railway standards highly regarded
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams
  • Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt to an environment with dynamic process and program requirements
