Senior Corporate Accountant

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Senior Commercial Accountant to be based at our South Brisbane Office.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Commercial, you will be joining a high performing team who are responsible the day to day accounting of the physical trading component of the Peabody business, including the accurate and timely recording of business transactions as well as associated reconciliations. The role also assists the Senior Manager Commercial with derivative accounting activities.

Duties will include:

• Ensure accurate revenue and expense recognition of physical export transactions for the global trading companies.  Prepare and maintain the related margin reports.  This involves reviewing transactions with traders, schedulers and risk management to determine accuracy and proper accounting treatment. 
• Timely and accurate completion of month-end responsibilities and associated reporting for the global trading companies including supporting the Senior Manager Commercial as required.
• Assist with month-end mark-to-market accounting for financial instruments 
• Provide assistance with accounting requirements for the US export physical trading activities. 
• Reconcile monthly Allegro information to SAP 
• Process intercompany transactions and support Treasury with intercompany cash settlements. 
• Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual compliance obligations are met in accordance with internal policy and SOX controls.
• Assist with quarterly SEC reporting deliverables
• Review trading contracts and assign the appropriate derivative status.
• Knowledge of foreign currency transactions and reporting requirements, including the re-measurement of foreign currency denominated transactions and associated transaction gains and losses
• Assist Treasury with weekly cash forecasting for the trading companies.
• Liaise with and assist both internal and external auditors as required
• Provide support to management and the broader business as required including 
• Actively participate in and identify continuous process improvement opportunities and efficiencies
• Other project based activities as required.

This permanent position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis with flexible working arrangements and early Friday finishes, all year round.

About you:

• 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience
• Understanding of USGAAP and Australian accounting standards and guidelines including understanding of or experience with derivative financial instruments
• SEC, ASX or similar public reporting experience preferrable, not essential
• Proficiency with SAP accounting software 
• Strong excel skills advantageous
• Allegro experience advantageous 
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail 
• High level of interpersonal skills
• Ability to build positive working relationships across functions and locations 
• Demonstrated problem solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues 
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment
