This role is a crucial and senior member of the legal team supporting RTA’s Pacific Operations. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.Reporting to the Chief Counsel RTA Pacific Operations, you will be working in a high performing legal team and contributing to the broader Rio Tinto Legal function. You will also:• Provide timely, accurate and commercial legal advice on commercial, regulatory and operational issues relating to RTA Pacific Operations to support delivery of the business plan and safeguard its business interests and reputation.• Advise on various joint venture and power supply arrangements/transactions (including decarbonisation and renewable energy initiatives) within the portfolio of assets.• Lead and support other members of the legal team and the broader RT Legal team.• Provide high quality legal skills and commercial acumen to support the operations, commercial projects and opportunities.• Develop and maintain close, collaborative, working relationships with colleagues, including internal clients, fellow team members within the Australian and global RTA Legal team, and colleagues within related functions.• Manage external legal resources in strategic and cost-effective ways.What you’ll bringTo be successful in this role you will bring:• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team• A law degree and post qualification experience as a legal practitioner in-house or at a top-tier law firm.• Resource and energy experience highly desirable, particularly in relation to power arrangements, joint ventures, environmental law and/or workplace safety.• Experience mentoring and supporting other lawyers and their development.• Excellent communication, writing and drafting skills.Where you’ll be workingRio Tinto Legal is responsible for providing legal services to the highest standard to the Rio Tinto Group, including headquarters, operating business units and service divisions. It also provides policy development and advice in the area of legal matters which are within its core competencies.
