We are now seeking expression of interest from current Newcrest staff in the position of Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer at our Telfer Operation.

Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of WA, Telfer is a short two-hour flight from Perth. Working as a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) operation, comprising of open pit and underground, you’ll be working 8 days on, 6 days off lifestyle. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room, and refurbished communal eatery.

Who we’re looking for

The purpose of the Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer is to provide electrical compliance support to site including as a minimum provision of technical and statutory guidance and support to site.

The Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer is accountable for creating, updating, and reviewing new or existing electrical standards and procedures as well as initiating and project management of compliance improvement initiatives. Directly reporting to the Superintendent- Engineering, this is a technical role with no direct reports and a focus on electrical compliance and good engineering practice.

We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practice. Other key responsibilities will include (but not limited to);

  • Risk identification & mitigation for electrical systems, procedures, and installation
  • Conduct statutory electrical audits and verifications and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure management of change process is followed diligently for electrical engineering work.
  • Incident investigation involving electrical controls, facilitating risk reviews, HAZOP
  • Actively support safety improvement initiatives and demonstrate safety leadership across site
  • Ensure site compliance with site and Australian Standards, Acts and Regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance to peer electrical engineers and graduates.
  • Provide scoping for compliance works, review of works by consultants to ensure site compliance and provide maintenance support as required

Our ideal candidate will be a strong problem-solver, possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, you will also have:

  • Proven frontline leadership experience within large-scale complex operations
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • High commitment to safety along with excellent decision making and delegation skills
  • Current C Class drivers’ licence
  • Experience in a Gold Processing Plant and Underground/Open Pit maintenance (Highly desirable)
  • Computer literacy and understanding of SAP (Highly Desirable)

You will ensure compliance with Newcrest Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Policies & Procedures and encourage others to so. You will be the custodian of site device configuration management system (The VOLT) and the custodian of site electrical model and ensure all changes are managed appropriately using ETAP.

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8D/6), flying out of Perth.
