About the Role

We have a current opportunity for a Senior Electrical Technical Officer to join our Nelson Point Maintenance Team. Supporting the Electrical Area Owner your areas of responsibility covers all North Yard machines and electrical equipment.  We are the first point of contact for electrical plant and equipment performance both short and long term, maintenance execution reviews, shutdown interactions and continuous improvement work.

Reporting to the Electrical Area Owner your duties will include:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP code of conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Material Risk Management and ensure controls are in place, including the verification of all Safe Work Procedures
  • Perform quality execution reviews on both shut and non-shut maintenance activities
  • Ownership of maintenance bridging register
  • Provide back-up statutory electrical supervision coverage for maintenance and shutdown works
  • Ensure operational discipline in 1SAP Work Management practices. 
  • Assist in delivering planned maintenance to drive a safe and reliable plant
  • Plan and develop execution scopes for a variety of corrective and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Continuous improvement of systems and processes are core priorities to enable effectiveness and efficiency
  • Coach and mentor team members to deliver on plan and build a high performing team
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development

Port Location

This opportunity based at the Port at Port Hedland, home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia is being offered on a residential basis working a 5/2 roster. In addition, other benefits include generous allowances, an attractive share scheme, annual salary reviews and a short-term incentive bonus. You will have access to the state of the art aquatic and sporting facilities in the town of Port Hedland.

About You

Our successful candidate will have the following:  

  • Electrical Trade qualification
  • Electrical WA A Grade Licence
  • Statutory electrical supervision experience
  • Technical knowledge of PLC's, VVFs, HV/LV motor and Citect systems
  • Drivers Licence
  • Proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely
  • Highly developed analytical & problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in organising & coordinating plant maintenance, projects and shutdowns
  • Ability to coach and guide teams through positive operational improvements
  • Experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors
  • Knowledge of computer based planning systems and packages including 1SAP.
