Title: Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Green Fleet Development

Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 roster

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet, rail locomotive and marine vessel.

Based at our new Hazelmere R&D facility, we are looking for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to work on a dynamic range of Green Fleet Development projects.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Report to the Principal Embedded Systems and work on Green Fleet decarbonisation projects that involves battery and fuel cells powertrain conversion and combustion engine modification
  • Work in close conjunction with other engineering disciplines and the project management team for overall project design and integration
  • Participate in product development lifecycle from prototype to production models
  • Setup software development platforms, frameworks, standards and processes to keep consistency across multiple projects
  • Develop embedded softwares for engine ECU control, battery management, electric powertrain management, vehicle control and data acquisition etc.
  • Debug and testing embedded software
  • Validate embedded control software in MIL and HIL testing
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose common automotive communications, i.e. CAN, J1939
  • Collaborate with engine control engineer and calibration engineer to achieve required engine performance
  • Work with FMG teams to integrate the Green Fleet projects to the FMG/FFI technology platform

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor of Software, Computer Science, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 10+ years experience in embedded software development for mobile equipment or automotive industry
  • Experience with model-based software development such as Matlab/Simulink is essential
  • Experience with C, C++, C#, Python, .Net development in both Windows and Linux is essential
  • Experience with software version control such as Git or SVN is essential
  • Experience with internal combustion engine control is highly advantageous
  • Experience with electric powertrain control and battery management is highly advantageous
  • Experience with IoT, big data, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) is highly advantageous
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams
  • Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt to an environment with dynamic process and program requirements
