Senior Emergency Services Officer/Medic  Rothsay

Rothsay Gold Mine is one of Australia’s newest underground gold mines located 400km north of Perth and only 45 minutes by plane. Rothsay is a small mine site in full production with ore being transported to Deflector processing facility 200km away.

THE ROLE:

A great opportunity for an ESO to join a close-knit team on a small, well-equipped site. With excellent facilities such as a medic/ERT office, fire truck, ambulance, ERT dome shelter and training ground we are looking for someone to take ownership and add value to the role and the site.

The Senior Emergency Services Trainer / Medic’s role is to conduct weekly Emergency Services training and upkeep the sites Emergency Services equipment and supplies. As the Medic onsite, the role is also responsible for maintaining the sites medical facility, providing appropriate medical treatment for injuries and illnesses and processing site entry medicals. The role is also expected to train and assess Emergency Response members in the standard suite of core competencies required for Underground Emergency Response such as BG4 and Fire Fighting.

The role will assist in developing the Emergency Management Plan for site and providing specialist advice and assistance for high risk work onsite.  As the senior in Rothsay Emergency Response, the position will provide direction to the cross shift and implement systems and processes.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Ensure safe work systems/procedures are established and practised to at all times to minimises risk to employees and contractors.
  • Positively influence the safe and productive improvement of processes and practices.
  • Maintain the Emergency Response resources for Rothsay.
  • Lead by example and actively participate to achieve department and company goals and objectives.
  • Assist the managers to achieve a resilient safety culture on site through awareness, visible leadership, innovation and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
  • Help identify potential risks or required precautions for employees, contractors and visitors as part of the site entry process.
  • Facilitate and assist the management team with return to work programs, restrictions and recommendations for personnel injured.
  • Assist with incident investigations and safety database support
  • Co-ordinate the specific requirements for statutory management plans with managers.
  • Site Medic to the level of qualification, including on-call when rostered on site.
  • Maintain the mine rescue capability, functionality and preparedness on site.

ABOUT YOU:

As a passionate and results-driven professional, you will bring your diplomacy, technical expertise and passion for safety to this dynamic and challenging role. You have a positive attitude and a demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds to achieve site and legislative objectives. In addition to this you have:

  • 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Experience and current qualification of Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
  • Ability to undertake and assess relevant training courses.
  • Experience and current qualification in CERT IV Pre-hospital care or equivalent.
  • Experience and relevant qualifications in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue; CERT III in Emergency Response
  • Experience with Safety Management databases.
  • Competent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Underground mine site based role.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in Emergency response coordination.
  • Hold a current C Class driver's license and multiple other mobile plant licences

You will be required to do an 8:6 roster. Competitive market salary will be offered to the successful applicant.
