Senior Energy Modeller

Our Opportunity

Work Location:  Perth, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday, will consider flexible work options.

Fortescue is seeking a Senior Energy Modeller to join our Perth-based team and support the analysis, planning and optimisation of our energy operations during a critical phase of growth and transition.  Supporting Fortescue operations and future projects, this role will deliver long-term energy modelling and data-driven insights to inform strategic planning, asset investment decisions and quarterly forecasting. 

In this role, you will maintain and run the PLEXOS energy model, undertake asset build and CAPEX and OPEX optimisation, analyse energy flows, and conduct broader industry and market analysis. You will translate complex modelling outcomes into clear, actionable reports and presentations, while working with stakeholders to improve modelling processes, assumptions, version control and overall model quality. The role will contribute to least-cost energy operations and Fortescue’s broader energy transition and sustainability objectives. 

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis on the Fortescue energy operations as well as the broader industry. Including but not limited to trends, benchmarks, and risk analysis.  
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the internal operations and energy market.
• Maintain the PLEXOS energy model assumptions
• Use the PLEXOS model to perform CAPEX and OPEX optimization analysis
• Deliver analysis through written reports and presentations.
• Regularly present findings in a clear and concise manner.
• Identify and drive process improvements, operations optimisation, and the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports.
• Engage with stakeholders to frame and analyse key strategic planning decisions and gather critical data.

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualified in Finance/Accounting/Engineering/Economics
• 5+ years of experience in a business analyst role or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in the energy sector. Renewables experience is desired.
• 2+ years of experience in PLEXOS
• Ability to take complex analysis and communicate in simple concepts
• Advanced problem-solving and business analysis techniques, with an ability to report and use metrics to communicate insights.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple analytical work streams.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
