Title: Senior Engine Design Engineer
Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)
Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility, we are presently looking for an experienced Engine Design Engineer
Key accountabilities will include:
- Design development of state-of-the-art internal combustion engines capable of operating on alternative fuels, from high-level concept through to detailed design following a product development and design release process
- Generating automotive quality 3D CAD with all necessary functional features
- Providing guidance and mentoring of designers including review and approvals of designs
- Producing automotive quality component and assembly level drawings
- Supporting development and implementation of automotive design methodology within the design group
- Completing tolerance stack analysis to demonstrate design assembly capability
- Working collaboratively with the broader Engineering and Projects teams
Qualifications and skills required:
- Mechanical engineering degree
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience preferably working for a major OEM
- Detailed knowledge of the design of reciprocating internal combustion engines, from the general arrangement/high-level architecture, through to detailed component design
- Thorough understanding of functional requirements, materials specification, manufacturing technology, structural, thermal and environmental requirements
- Expertise in DFMA, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, fits and finish related to internal combustion engine components and upper-level assembly function and manufacturing/machining processes
- Detailed 3D CAD and drawing skills. SOLIDWORKS professional experience essential, Creo and Catia regarded
- Able to generate 3D CAD for numerical analysis both for solid mechanics fluid and thermodynamics
- Conversant with numerical analysis, measurement, machining, fabrication and assembly mechanical technical requirements and methods
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Ability to work across multiple work fronts in a high-pressure environment
- High commitment to safety
- Experience in preparing detailed scope of works
- Experience in participating / coordinating a purchasing tender process
- Experience in contractor engagement and contractor management process
- Excellent interpersonal awareness with ability to work well in a team
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for excellence
