Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Senior Engineer - Drill & Blast.

Telfer Operations

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognises the importance of work-life balance.  We provide comfortable, well-furnished rooms with Foxtel, along with site offers of quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports, and recreation activities.  Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.

Who we are looking for

Reporting into the Superintendent, we are searching for a Senior Drill & Blast Engineer to lead the team within the Open Pit Department at the Telfer Operations.

With a team of up to 3 direct reports, you will be responsible for mentoring and coaching personnel whilst maintaining high standards of performance, fostering a proactive approach to safety and ensuring Drill and Blast requirements.

Other accountabilities of the role:

  • Ensuring reliable scheduling through monitoring drill and blast requirements as well as ensuring planned drill hole designs and blast tie in designs are completed prior to execution.
  • Conducting QA & QC on all drilling & blasting activities whilst providing documented feedback.
  • Identifying, supporting, and implementing improvement projects to performance across the open pit contractor and Newmont mining teams
  • Setting priorities and allocating work to personnel and ensuring feedback is recorded including opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide support to develop, coach and mentor team members to continuously improve their knowledge and skills and relationship interactions.
  • Supporting the Safety Management System, ensuring a safety-first work culture; applying site safety standards, procedures and policies
  • Ensuring safety/toolbox meeting are conducted at the appropriate frequency with a focus of continued improvement of the Health and Safety and addressing concerns
  • Fostering key relationships with the contractor team, technical services department, senior geotechnical engineers, senior surveyors, departmental superintendents and group technical services personnel

As the ideal candidate, you will be an experienced Senior Drill & Blast Engineer who ensures a team- based culture and a strong commitment to cultural change initiatives. You will have exceptional leadership skills to guide the team to success.

Other required skills and experiences include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
  • Experience in leadership with Drill and Blast open pit mining
  • Well-rounded stakeholder management experience and excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Vulcan
  • Power BI and BlastLogic experience is desirable
  • Manual drivers licence (Essential)

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
