Senior Engineer - Electrical Mining Systems

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday 

We are looking for a Senior Engineer, Electrical Mining Systems to join our Operations Planning Technical Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Decarb journey.

Reporting to the Principal, Electrical Mining Systems, their focus will be to support the electrical mining fleet and systems across the Fortescue Metals Group iron ore platform. The role requires strong knowledge of electrical fleet requirements, electrical mine planning requirements and associated systems, processes and support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working constructively with site technical and production teams to safely and efficiently, implement and maintain electrical mining fleet and systems.
  • Identifying and managing critical business risks associated with electrical mining fleet and systems
  • Training technical staff in the implementation and maintenance of electrical mining systems including management of supporting infrastructure
  • Lead the identification and treatment of business risks from a technical, health & safety, environment and cost perspective and establish governance routines/ processes for the Division’s site teams to achieve the same during cyclic mine planning
  • Oversee and promote technical specialists’ development and performance management, driving a culture of continuous improvement
  • Manage dependencies and influence / collaborate with cross-functions to achieve shared leadership goals (i.e. Strategic Planning, Operations, Asset Management, Finance etc.)
  • Develop a department plan to execute department tactical actions for electrical mining fleet and systems
  • Establish and implement tactical actions to achieve the department strategic objectives for electrical mining fleet and systems
  • Establish and manage the department budget – annual budget, sustaining and any expansionary capital
  • Building and maintaining positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Technical Mining (or equivalent discipline) desired
  • At least 5 years’ experience in electrical mine planning and operations experience
  • Solid understanding of WHS Legislation & Mine Regulations and experience in Risk Standards & Risk Assessments and Risk Management Systems
  • Proven leadership experience and formal appointment experience as contract owner/ contractor manager
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and executing department / operational plans to deliver business strategy
  • Strong understanding of Open Pit truck and shovel mining methods, electrical mining fleet and systems
  • Broad knowledge of key technical and production disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience building positive working relationships with the ability to influence business outcomes in a networked organisation
