Senior Engineer - Mining

Macmahon is accepting applications from Senior Mining Engineers for our Dawson South Project.  This project is a $200 million metallurgical coal mining operation for Anglo American. Dawson is one of Australia’s longest established coal mines and is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland near the town of Moura; it is approximately one hour drive from Biloela and two hours from Rockhampton and Gladstone. This opportunity is offered on an 8/6 roster. 

With over 55 years of experience, Macmahon is a mining contractor with a unique capability of offering its clients surface, underground and mining support services.

Role focus

• Implement and monitor weekly and monthly mine plans, taking corrective action where required
• Provide technical and commercial support to site personnel including the Project Manager and operations team
• Timely reporting of accurate site performance statistics
• Identify and actively participate in business improvement initiatives
• Review and liaise with site personnel on client schedules, equipment allocation.
• Achieve a high level of competency and maintenance of the production reporting system
• Provide technical input into continuous improvement and optimization opportunities to ensure maximum productivity and safety
• Daily reporting, collation, analysis, distribution and review with production team
• Assist with the management of survey data and checks
• Formulate and finalise the Monthly Progress Claim (incl variations & dayworks)
• Analyze empirical fiscal returns, and the drivers impacting those returns for the Project

Ideal candidate

• Previous experience in a similar role
• Tertiary degree - Mining Engineer or equivalent
• Previous exposure to coal mining 
• Short to medium term planning skills
• Familiarity with mine planning software including Spry
• Commercial acumen
• Great interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to Macmahon safety culture and values
• Current C Class Drivers Licence
