Operations near and far
In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.
Who we’re looking for
Reporting into the Superintendent – Mine Underground, the primary purpose of this position is to lead the Mining Engineering team to ensure all work is carried out in a safe, structured, agreed and timely manner. Ensure absolute compliance with legal requirements and company objectives and provide support to develop, coach and mentor team members to continuously improve their knowledge and skills and relationship interactions.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment
- Ensuring absolute compliance with the applicable mines regulations
- Participating in site safety initiatives and support the NewSafe behaviours in the team
- Demonstrate technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and guiding the team to deliver on section goals
- Ensuring technical outputs are fit for purpose and in accordance with site standards
- Effective and timely communication to ensure all team members understand the daily tasks and their importance
- Ensures a team based culture between employees, departments and contractors
To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, self-motivated and have strong time management skills. You will have expert technical and operational capability combined with highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
Our ideal candidate will have a tertiary engineering qualification (Mining or similar) and have preferably been in a senior and/or lead level position previously. Underground hard rock experience will be highly advantageous.
Ideally you will also have;
- Demonstrated experience working alongside and/or leading underground contractors as well as all aspects of an underground mine
- Exposure to contract management
- The ability to think strategically and effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Current C Class drivers’ licence
We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practise.
Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8D/6), flying out of Perth.
