Owned by Yancoal, Yarrabee is based in Blackwater QLD which is 200 km west of the Capricorn Coast. Yarrabee is a proud producer of high-quality PCI coal since 1982. We employ approximately 400 people, who are our most valuable asset and we invest in developing our management and leadership talent throughout our operations. Yancoal Australia is Australia’s largest pure play coal producer. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland. Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Yancoal currently employs over 3,000 people across its operations.
We have an opportunity for a Senior Environment & Community Advisor to join our team at Yarrabee.
About the Role
Reporting to the Environment & Community Superintendent this role will provide professional and technical support in relation to the effective management of environmental obligations and community relations, including:
- Compliance with environmental approvals, management plans and other statutory obligations
- Supporting the Environment and Community Superintendent in the development and delivery of environment and community objectives, initiatives and obligations.
- Effectively communicate key environment and sustainability information to internal and external stakeholders to support the business.
- Monitor, report and improve environmental and sustainability performance, compliance and defects through environmental monitoring, inspections and investigations.
- Supporting the development and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System and associated documentation/records.
- Supporting proactive engagement with internal, external and community stakeholders.
- Assist site management in the delivery of a safe and productive workplace.
Roster: Monday to Friday - Flexible
About You
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent
- A Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (Environmental Science, Management or Engineering, etc)
- 3-5 years' experience in a professional environmental role (mining or heavy industry experience desirable but not essential)
- Sound knowledge of Queensland environmental and sustainability legislation, standards and management systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Demonstrated technical background in the areas of environmental monitoring, data management and reporting
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and pragmatically address environmental and sustainability challenges and initiatives.
- High competency in Microsoft software applications, with exposure to ArcGIS or QGIS desirable.
