We are looking for a Senior Environmental Advisor to support the closure activities associated with the Argyle Diamond mine. You will work closely with site teams by implementing and coordinating programmes and ensure the delivery of key environment department and closure execution projects, systems, management and monitoring plans.

Reporting to the HSE Manager and working collaboratively with the Rio Tinto Closure and Rio Tinto Projects teams, this role is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of the environmental management system including management plans, procedures, monitoring, data collection, QA/QC, data analysis and reporting, including database management and GIS.
- Prioritise and co-ordinate the activities of the onsite environmental team in carrying out the work plan; and ensuring that their activities are consistently aligned with meeting closure planning targets while at the same time meeting relevant environmental obligations, commitment, conditions, and standards.
- Manage, collate and provide environmental data, non-compliance information or other issues for regulatory notifications and to meet annual reporting requirements.
- Conduct or co-ordinate regular onsite inspections and audits to ensure that the relevant site contractors and employees comply with environmental standards, procedures and relevant legislation.
- Communicate regularly with key stakeholders including site management, supervisors, contract partners, other Rio Tinto employees and external parties regarding environmental targets, plans and performance improvement.
- Ensure the ongoing growth and development of the team by providing leadership, mentoring and feedback on overall performance and operational responsibilities within the team to ensure a competent, professional and effective team.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with operations personnel, consultants and contractors to ensure smooth implementation of site work and efficient report delivery.
- Actively participate in a diverse range of professional development and networking opportunities sharing your knowledge with the team, developing and fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business needs.
- Adhere and commit to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures.
What you’ll bring

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering or related discipline
- Experience in mine closure desirable, site based operational/contractor management experience essential
- Experience in managing consultants to deliver large work programs
- Proficient in the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technology
- Proven capability in the analysis and presentation of environmental data; and
- Ability to work autonomously with reliability and accuracy.

Argyle diamond mine, which sits on the traditional country of the Miriuwung, Gidja, Malgnin and Wularr people in Western Australia, is one of the world’s largest producers of diamonds and the largest supplier of natural coloured diamonds – including white, champagne, cognac, blue, violet and the rare and the highly-coveted Argyle pink and red diamonds. Argyle has produced more than 825 million carats of rough diamonds since it began production in 1983 and ceased production in November 2020.
